Cleaning your leather bible cover - removing common stains.

A quality leather bible cover is an investment to keep your bible in good condition for a lifetime of use. You can make yours last longer by cleaning and treating your bible cover leatherconditioner from time to time and keeping it looking great for years. In general cleaning your leather bible cover lightly with a mild soap and a damp cloth should be sufficient but the occasional ink stain or car grease stain can happen… If you find this has happened to you, here are some DYI tips that we found for cleaning leather purses that can help. Please note, these are tips and we can not guarantee they will not change the finish, so always test a small no visible area first. 

Lemon Juice and Cream of Tartar mix. 

Make a paste of equal parts of lemon juice and Cream of Tartar then apply to the stained area and let it sit for approximately 30 minutes. You can then just use a damp cloth and whip your leather bible cover clean. Please note that this mixture has light bleaching property so its only recommended for lighter color material and leather. Once clean, then apply a good quality leather conditioner to the leather to help avoid the leather from drying out. This will also help from future stains on the leather as well.  

Baking soda or Cornstarch or mix them both 

To clean a food grease stain, car grease stain or oil stain you need to find something that will absorb the grease and oil. One way of treating this could be to lightly spread baking soda or cornstarch on the stain spot and gently rub with a damp cloth. Just let the powder sit on the stain for at least 30 minutes. Similar to the old method of pouring cat litter on your oil stain in the garage, baking soda or oil will soak up the grease or oil to absorb the stain residue. Once the stain is treated, wipe the power off with a gentle lint free cloth. 

Rubbing Alcohol or Nail polish removal

This one you for sure would want to test a small area first. This method is for removing the common ink stain from a pen or marker. Just dip a q-tip or cotton swab in the rubbing alcoholor nail polish remover then lightly dab the ink stain. You should notice the ink dissolving. Once treated gently blot using a damp cloth as you do not want the ink to spread more by rubbing. When the ink is removed, clean and treat with a quality leather conditioner as usual.
